In southern California, the earth is riddled with thousands of earthquake fault lines. It's nearly a given that a fault is near or under your property if you live here. Years after I bought my house, I did some research and discovered that the fault under my house is THE FAULT. Not the San Andreas, but it's less infamous cousin the Newport-Inglewood fault. The problem with this one is that it's much more dangerous because it bisects a huge section of the metropolitan LA area and it's got houses and buildings on every bit of it. When it goes off, I'm kinda screwed. Global warming, pandemics, North Korea, and even the possibility of an authoritarian state... these things would keep me up at night, so maybe they worry you too? Well I'm also living on literally the deepest crack on our entire planet. it goes down to the mantle. And it goes right through my living room. And the bathroom. And the kitchen. And the bedroom.
