In Huntington Beach - Surf City, California - There is a unique high school music program that for over 10 years has focused on training young songwriters and musicians in the art of rock & roll. It is called MMET (Music, Media and Entertainment Technology), a department within the magnet program called Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (HBAPA). The MMET program is primarily performance-based and has produced dozens of professional tour-grade shows. For the third year in a row they are presenting Playlist, which is dedicated to contemporary popular and independent music. Beyond just covering today's hits and favorites, the students were encouraged to write and perform songs of their own, and ten were chosen to be performed by the authors in the show. These songs were in turn, recorded for this album project, a happy accident of timing and energies. An album like this is something that the directors have wanted to do for over a decade. This is just a small slice of what's going on with young people in this groovy beach town. Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts is a magnet program of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, an arts program within a traditional High School campus.
